Inspired by the lighting techniques of famous portrait painters’
such as Rembrandt and photographers such as Sugimoto Hiroshi,
I have been photographing male workers in their work environment
in Cyprus and the UK. The project is called ‘The Unknown Worker’
and portrays the workers of the twenty-first century who work in
positions which require a classic dress code of a shirt and a tie.
The workers remain unknown to the viewer while their faces are left
out of the frame. By removing the face, the viewer's gaze is compelled
to focus on the rest of the body and notice details which reveal
the depicted person’s personality and individuality.
